[edit]From Classical Syriac ܙܡܪܓܕܐ (zəmargaḏā, zəmarraḡdā), from earlier ܐܙܡܪܓܕܐ (ʾezmarraḡdā), from Ancient Greek σμᾰ́ραγδος (smáragdos). Doublet of زُمُرُّد (zumurrud).
