[edit]From Persian ترید (tarid, “a soup”), apparently in a variant as ثَلْجَم (ṯaljam), and possibly ultimately from a diminutive of Ancient Greek ἴτριον (ítrion), hence doublet of إِطْرِيَة (ʔiṭriya).
