Etymology 1

Inherited from Prakrit *𑀪𑁂𑀟 (*bheḍa), from Sanskrit भेड्र (bheḍra), from a substrate, possibly Munda.^[1] Cognate with Bengali ভেড়া (bheṛa), Bhojpuri भेड़ा (bhēṛā), Gujarati ભેડ (bheḍ), and Punjabi ਭੇਡ (bheḍ).
