[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ērig (“large, great”); cognate with Azerbaijani iri, Bashkir эре (ere), Karakhanid [script needed] (irig), Kyrgyz ири (iri), Uyghur ژىرىك (zhirik) and Uzbek yirik.
