[edit]From Middle Persian 𐫀𐫏𐫅𐫡 (ʾydr /ēdar/, “here”), which is combined from 𐫀𐫏𐫅 (ʾyd /ēd/, “this”) and *𐫡 (*r /-ar/) from Old Persian 𐎡𐎭𐎠 (i-d-a, “here”) from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hidʰá. Compare with Urdu ادھر (idhar, “here”) and ادھر (udhar, “there”).
