Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ōtïn (firewood), from *ōt (fire); cognate with Azerbaijani odun, Bashkir утын (utın), Kazakh отын (otyn), Kyrgyz отун (otun), Tatar утын (utın), Turkmen odun, Uyghur ئوتۇن (otun) and Uzbek o'tin.
