Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (şikence, “torture”) or [script needed] (işkenci), from Persian شکنجه (šekanje, “torment; torture”), اشکنجه (eškanje). Cognate with Azerbaijani işgəncə.
