[edit]Inherited from Prakrit *𑀅𑀤𑁆𑀥𑀯𑁂𑀟 (*addhaveḍa), from Sanskrit अर्ध (ardha, “half”) + *वेड (veḍa) with the second term possibly related to वेला (velā, “time, occasion”). Cognate with Punjabi ਅਧੇੜ (adheṛ), Gujarati આધેડ (ādheḍ).
