From ضَحْوَة (ḍaḥwa, morning), from the root ض ح و (ḍ-ḥ-w). Sense of “become” resembles other verbs of similar meaning derived from different times of day; compare أَصْبَحَ (ʔaṣbaḥa), بَاتَ (bāta), أَمْسَى (ʔamsā), all meaning "become."
