[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *altun (“gold”); cognate with Old Turkic 𐰞𐱃𐰆𐰣 (l¹t¹un¹ /altun/), Azerbaijani altun, Bashkir алтын (altın), Chuvash ылтӑн (ylt̬ăn), Kazakh алтын (altyn), Kyrgyz алтын (altın), Turkmen altyn, Uyghur ئالتۇن (altun) and Uzbek oltin.
