[edit]Borrowed from a Middle Iranian descendant of Proto-Iranian *waj- (“to carry, drive”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *waȷ́ʰ-, from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ-. Compare especially Parthian 𐫇𐫉- (wz- /waz-/, “to move swiftly, fly; to travel; to blow (of wind)”) and Northern Kurdish bezîn, bez- (“to run, gallop”).
