Etymology

Borrowed from a Middle Iranian descendant of Proto-Iranian *waj- (to carry, drive), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *waȷ́ʰ-, from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ-. Compare especially Parthian 𐫇𐫉- (wz- /⁠waz-⁠/, to move swiftly, fly; to travel; to blow (of wind)) and Northern Kurdish bezîn, bez- (to run, gallop).

վազեմ (vazem)  (aorist indicative վազեցի)

  1. (intransitive) to leap, to bound, to spring or dart forward, to clear at a single bound
    վազեալ անցանելvazeal ancʻanelto overpass, to cross, to leap over, to outleap
    վազել սրտիvazel srtito flutter, to throb, to palpitate (of heart)
  2. (intransitive) to run swiftly, impetuously
    ի բաց վազելi bacʻ vazelto pass away, to fly away
  3. (intransitive) to overstep, to surpass, to transgress, to trespass; to rebel
    յօրէնսն վազելyōrēnsn vazelto inveigh against the law
    վազել զոմամբvazel zomambto revolt against; to despise
    յազատութեանն վազել փառսyazatutʻeann vazel pʻaṙsto lift up the horns against, to rebel, to rise in rebellion; to get proud, to become presumptuous
