[edit]- սարու (saru), սարուէ (saruē), սարւէ (sarwē), սարուէն (saruēn), սարուեն (saruen), սարուվէն (saruvēn)[1][2]
Etymology
[edit]An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian 𐫘𐫡𐫇 (srw /sarw/), Persian سرو (sarw), and the Arabic loanword سَرْو (sarw, “cypress”). See the latter for more. For the form սարուէն (saruēn) and the like compare Classical Syriac ܫܱܪܘܱܝܢܳܐ (šarwēnā, “Cupressus sempervirens”). See also սարդ (sard).
Noun
[edit]սարոյ • (saroy)
Usage notes
[edit]Older sources are uncertain about the species of the tree.[3][4][5][6][7] Artʿinean has definitively shown that it was the cypress.[8]
