Etymology 2
[edit]The origin is uncertain. Perhaps borrowed from a source related to the etymon of սարոյ (saroy, “cypress”).[1] Compare also Arabic سِدْر (sidr, “the name of various trees”), Persian سدر (sadar, “lote-tree”), Ancient Greek κέδρος (kédros, “cedar”).
