հայիմ

Old Armenian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

The origin is uncertain. Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂- (to protect) with a semantic shift “to protect” → “to watch over” → “to watch, to look”. See also նայիմ (nayim), յայտ (yayt).
