Etymology

From the Proto-Indo-European past tense augment *e-, which is an isogloss shared only by Armenian, Ancient Greek, Indo-Iranian, and Phrygian. For examples of cognates see եդ (ed), եբեր (eber), եգիտ (egit).

Prefix

ե- • (e-)

1. an augment, added to monosyllabic third-person singular aorist forms; called e-augment

   եբեր ― eber ― third-person singular present active aorist of բերեմ (berem)

   ետես ― etes ― third-person singular present active aorist of տեսանեմ (tesanem)

   եմուտ ― emut ― third-person singular present active aorist of մտանեմ (mtanem)
