Etymology
[edit]According to Martirosyan, probably of the same Proto-Indo-European origin as յ-ոլով (y-olov, “many”).
On the other hand, J̌ahukyan connected with աղաւնի (aławni), deriving both from Proto-Indo-European *aləu- (“white, shiny”) or *aləbʰ-; considered unconvincing by Martirosyan.
