Old Armenian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Via Ancient Greek Ἀραράτ (Ararát) of the Septuagint translation from Biblical Hebrew אֲרָרָט (ʾărārāṭ) in Genesis 8:4. In Armenian antiquity the name Արարատ (Ararat) did not refer to the mountain known today by that name, which was then called Մասիս (Masis). The association of Արարատ (Ararat) with this mountain is a later occurrence, not pre-dating the 11th century. Doublet of Այրարատ (Ayrarat).
