Etymology
[edit]өршәңгү (örşäñgü) + седкл (sedkl), literally “merciful thoughts/wishes”. For similar religious term used in the Sinosphere, compare 慈悲. Also compare Sanskrit करुणा (karuṇā) as well as Tibetan སྙིང་རྗེ (snying rje). The corresponding Mongolian term is өршөөл (öršööl). The synonymous term, нигүлскү (nigülskü), although more used in religious texts in the past, is now obscure.
