From *qadїn-ana ~ *qadїn-ene "mother-in-law", from Proto-Turkic *kādïn (in-law) + Proto-Turkic *eńe / *ana (mother).

Cognate with Kumyk къайын ана (qayın ana), Southern Altai кайын эне (kayïn ene), Crimean Tatar qaynana, Uzbek qaynana, Uyghur قېينىنا (qëynina), Turkmen gaýynene, Turkish kaynana, Azerbaijani qayınana, Khakas хазине (xazine, mother-in-law), etc.
