Inherited from Proto-Slavic *jetì (to copulate).[1] Cognate with Old East Slavic ѥти (jeti), Ukrainian є́ти (jéty), Russian е́ть (jétʹ), ети́ (jetí), Ancient Greek οἴφω (oíphō), Sanskrit यभति (yábhati).
