Etymology

Inherited from Old Ruthenian *єти (*jeti), from Old East Slavic ети (eti), from Proto-Slavic *jetì (to copulate).[1][2] Cognate with Russian е́ть (jétʹ), ети́ (jetí), Old Novgorodian ѥти (jeti), Ancient Greek οἴφω (oíphō), Sanskrit यभति (yábhati).[3]
