[edit]From *yoğurqan "blanket", which appears to be a substantivized past participle from an unattested verbal stem *yoğur-. From Proto-Turkic *jogurgan. Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (joğurqan, “blanket”); Tatar юрган (yurgan), Kyrgyz жууркан (juurkan)/жуурткан (juurtkan), Bashkir юрған (yurğan), Kumyk ювургъан (yuwurğan), Turkmen ýorgan, Azerbaijani yorğan (“blanket”), Turkish yorgan (“comforter”), Khakas чорған (çorğan), Tuvan чоорган (çoorgan), etc.
