[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic изгои (izgoi)[1] or изгой (izgoj).[2] By surface analysis, із- (iz-) + го́їти (hójity), from Proto-Slavic *gojiti (“to heal, feed”), the latter derived from a causative form of Proto-Indo-European *gʷeyh₃- (“to live”) (whence жи́ти (žýty)).
