Proto-Samic *čuoppëtēk, Proto-Uralic *ćappa-.

Related to Hungarian csap and Erzya цяпамс (ćapams). Cognates include Skolt Sami čuõpˈpâd, Kildin Sami чӯһпэ (čūhpe) and Northern Sami čuohppat.
