[edit]Possibly from Polish chłopiec, also analysed as хлоп (xlop) + -ець (-ecʹ). Cognate with Czech chlapec, čakavian Serbo-Croatian hlapac, Slovak chlapec, and Russian хло́пец (xlópec).
