[edit]From Classical Mongolian ᠲᠡᠷᠡ᠋ (ter-e, “that”), from Middle Mongol ᠲᠡᠷᠡ (tere) and ᠲᠡᠷᠡ᠋ (ter-e, “that”), from Proto-Mongolic *tere (“that”). Cognate with Buryat тэрэ (tere, “that”), Kalmyk тер (ter, “that; he, she, it”), Dongxiang tere, etc.
Replaced original ᠢ (i, compare Daur ing) for sense ‘he, she, it’ as the third-person singular pronoun.
