Etymology

From Old Church Slavonic сквозѣ (skvozě, through, across), a locative case of Proto-Slavic *skvozъ (aperture). Cognate with Russian сквозь (skvozʹ), Slovak skozi.

In the modern language, superseded by the more general през (prez). Originally, used to describe passage/crossing in and through a tunnel, slit, or another type of transit amid some barrier.
