Etymology

Inherited from Old Ruthenian *розорѧ́ти, разорѧ́ти (*rozorjáti, razorjáti), from Old East Slavic *розорѧ́ти, разорѧ́ти (*rozorę́ti, razorę́ti), from Proto-Slavic *orzořati. By surface analysis, розор- (rozor-) +‎ -я́ти (-játy). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic разорꙗти (razorjati), Serbo-Croatian раза́рати.
