Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish پشتمال (peştemal, peştamal, peştimal), پیشتمال (piştemal), from Persian پشتمال (poštmâl), from پشت (pošt, “back, rear of the body”) + مال (mâl, “cleaning”). Also borrowed in English as peshtemal. Other cognates include Albanian peshtamall, Aromanian pishtamal and Serbo-Croatian пештѐма̄љ/peštèmālj.
