[edit]From Old East Slavic пьпьрьць (pĭpĭrĭcĭ), from пьпьрь (pĭpĭrĭ, “pepper”) + -ьць (-ĭcĭ), from Proto-Slavic *pьpьrь. Cognate with Russian пе́рец (pérec).
