Etymology

Most likely from Proto-Slavic *na (on) + Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁- (to do, put), with the semantic shift: to put onto hook, to bait (fish)to attract, to allure. Compare a nearly identical formation: наді́ти (nadíty).
