[edit]Compare to Kazakh мә (mä), Kyrgyz ме (me), Yakut мэ (me), Uzbek ma (“here, take (it)”). Seems originally an adverb "here, ecce" which borrowed semantics of Turkic imperative: al "take". Compare Kazakh: мә, ал! "here, take (it)!" or Russian: на, держи! "same".
