Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *lavtəŋ ~ *lavtəmə. Possibly ultimately linked to Proto-Uralic *lapa (“surface; plane (of an object)”); compare Finnish lapa (“shoulder”).
Cognate with Moksha лафту (laftu).
