[edit]A Wanderwort of uncertain ultimate origin: compare Chechen керт (kert, “fence”), Ingush карт (kart); Georgian ქართა (karta, “cattle pen”), Mingrelian ქართა (karta), Svan ლი-ქჷრთ-ე (li-kərt-e, “to fence”); Hungarian kert (“garden”), Northern Khanty карда (karda, “courtyard”), картам (kartam, “fence”), Northern Mansi карда (karda, “courtyard”), Komi-Zyrian карта (karta, “cattle pen”), Moksha карда (karda, “cowshed”), Erzya кардо (kardo), кардас (kardas, “courtyard”); Chuvash карта (kart̬a), Bashkir кәртә (kərtə), Tatar киртә (kirtä); dialectal Russian ка́рда (kárda). Further note the reflexes of Proto-Indo-European *gʰerdʰ-.
