[edit]Borrowed from Russian князь (knjazʹ),[1] from Proto-Slavic *kъnędzь, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *kuningaz. Doublet of кнез (knez) from Old Church Slavonic кънѧѕь (kŭnędzĭ).[2]
