Inherited from Old Ruthenian зануритисѧ (zanuritisja). Compare Polish zanurzyć się and Ukrainian занури́тися (zanurýtysja).

1. to dip, to dive, to immerse oneself, to plunge, to sink, to submerge oneself
   • 1909 [1888], Францішак Умястоўскі, “Малады каралевіч”, in Наша Ніва, number 5, translation of The Young King by Oscar Wilde, page 72:

     Іон занурыўся астатні раз. Доўга быў пад вадою, ажно выплыў. На гэты раз дастаў ён пэрлу, якой не было ешчэ на сьвеце.

     Ión zanuryŭsja astatni raz. Dóŭha byŭ pad vadóju, ažnó vyplyŭ. Na hety raz dastaŭ jon perlu, jakój nje byló ješče na sʹvjecje.

     [original: Then the diver came up for the last time, and the pearl that he brought with him was fairer than all the pearls of Ormuz]

     He submerged for the last time, spending a long while underwater before resurfacing, exhausted. This time, the pearl he brought with him was unlike any other in the world.
