[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic гѫдьба (gǫdĭba), from Proto-Slavic *gǫdьba. By surface analysis, гудеть (gudetʹ) + -ба́ (-bá). Cognate to Ukrainian гудьба (hudʹba, “humming, music”) and Czech hudba (“music”).
