Inherited from Old East Slavic гѫдьба (gǫdĭba), from Proto-Slavic *gǫdьba. By surface analysis, гудеть (gudetʹ) +‎ -ба́ (-bá). Cognate to Ukrainian гудьба (hudʹba, humming, music) and Czech hudba (music).
