[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak hriešny, hríšny, from Proto-Slavic *grěšьnъ. By surface analysis, грих (hrix) + -ни (-ni). Cognates include Czech hříšný, Polish grzeszny, Slovak hriešny and Ukrainian грі́шний (hríšnyj).
