[edit]Uncertain. Perhaps akin to Belarusian гаршчо́к (harščók), Russian горшо́к (goršók) and Ukrainian горщо́к (horščók), thus ultimately derived from Proto-Slavic *gornъ, *gъrnъ + -чок (-čok), whence also Polish garnek and Slovak hrniec.
