Etymology

Analyzable as ви- (vy-) +‎ трива́лий (tryvályj). Possibly a corruption of the now obsolete витрима́лий (vytrymályj, abstinent),[1] cognate with Polish wytrzymały and formed analogously to a past active participle of the verb ви́тримати (výtrymaty).
