[edit]Etymology
[edit]Ultimately from Koine Greek Προκόπῐος (Prokópios), a proper name derived from Ancient Greek προκοπή (prokopḗ, “progress forward to prosperity; advancement toward success; improvement by diligence”). Compare Russian Проко́фий (Prokófij) and Ukrainian Проко́фій (Prokófij); more distantly cognate to English Procopius.
