[edit]From Ancient Greek *ψυάριον (*psuárion) or *ψοιάριον (*psoiárion), diminutive of ψόᾱ (psóā), ψύᾱ f (psúā, “muscle of the loins”) + νεφρ(ός) (nefr(ós), “kidney”) + -ι (-i).[1] Unrelated to ψάρι n (psári, “fish”).
