Greek

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Byzantine Greek ψάχνω (psákhnō), from Ancient Greek ψαύω (psaúō, to touch (lightly)), based on past tense stem's change ψαυσ- > ψαξ- and further metaplasm similar to the pattern διωξ-, έδιωξα (édioxa, past tense) - διώχνω (dióchno, chase away, present tense)[1] - compare ancient διώκω (diṓkō). ψαύω (psaúō) is likely related to ψάω (psáō, to touch lightly); see there for more.
