Etymology

χρωστώ (chrostó) + -άω (-áo). Inherited from Byzantine Greek χρωστῶ (khrōstô) (2nd person χρωστεῖς (khrōsteîs)). From Hellenistic Koine Greek χρεωστῶ (khreōstô), with avoidance of the hiatus [eo], contructed form of χρεωστέω (khreōstéō).[1][2]
