Diminutive form of σαγάνι (sagáni, double-handled pan), from Ottoman Turkish صحن (sahan, sahın), from Arabic صَحْن (ṣaḥn). Compare Greek τηγάνι (tigáni, frying pan) and Ancient Greek τήγανον (tḗganon) or τάγηνον (tágēnon).
