Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *ksu-ró-s (“razor”), from *ksew- (“to scrape, sharpen, shave”). Exact cognate with Proto-Indo-Iranian *kšurás (“dagger, razor”); see also the verbal formation from the same root ξύω (xúō, “to scrape”).^[1]
