[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- μᾰστροφός (mastrophós)
Etymology
[edit]The usual connection with μαίομαι (maíomai, “to touch, investigate”) is uncertain, as the variant with -φ- may point to a Pre-Greek word. Furnée further compares μάτρυλλος (mátrullos, “pimp”), with a variation -σ-/zero.
