[edit]Formation like θαλερός (thalerós) and φανερός (phanerós). There is no etymology, because of the uncertain meaning. Traditionally taken to be related to μάλα (mála, “very, exceedingly”); however, according to Bechtel it belongs to μάλευρον (máleuron, “wheat-meal”) and μύλη (múlē, “mill, hand-mill”).
