From Proto-Hellenic *krāhōn, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₂-s-n-, from the root *ḱerh₂- (head). Earlier comparisons with Sanskrit श्री (śrī, beauty) are semantically and phonologically problematic.[1]
