[edit]From Proto-Oghuz *čeyne-, Proto-Turkic *čayna-. Cognate to Azerbaijani çeynɘmɘk, Gagauz çiinemää, Turkish çiğnemek, Turkmen çeýnemek; also Kazakh шайнау (şainau), Kyrgyz чайноо (caynoo), Uzbek chaynamoq, Uyghur [script needed] (çaynimaq).
